A pretty solid run from Tarpins on Tuesday. He finished fourth, which was his best result to date – he even gets a (very) small amount of prizemoney which will probably pay his training fee for a day or two.
He was drawn quite wide and had to work pretty hard to get across to the outside of the leader after about 300 metres. The leader went pretty hard so our boy had to keep working hard to keep his spot. The leader faded before the home turn and finished last. To our boy’s credit, he kept plugging on and wasn’t far behind the leading bunch at the finish. He seemed to race much better as well*, keeping close to the inside rail down the home straight, unlike his inglorious performance at Echuca when he almost jumped the outside rail down the straight.
Hopefully next time he’ll manage to draw inside. I think 1600m is his distance, and if he can draw well I think he’ll go close to breaking his cherry.
*Haven’t had an official debrief from the trainer yet.
