Congratulations Australia!

worldcup.jpg Congratulations to Australia, winners of the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

That makes it three World Cups in a row and an incredible 29 World Cup matches in a row without defeat.

Well done to Adam Gilchrist for his matchwinning 149, and farewell to champion bowler Glenn McGrath who retires from international cricket on a fitting note.

The rain-affected match descended into farce, finishing in virtual darkness, however this did not detract from what was a dominant performance by the world champs.

Well done, fellas, we’re proud of you.

do u think we can assemble a world XI to take on the aussies, instead of having series between 1 another????
thats the only way we can try 2 beat em

I think they tried that, either in 2005 or 2006. The Aussies beat a World XI in both test and ODI matches.

McGrath and Hayden, the two best performers from this World Cup, won’t be there next time, nor I suspect will the matchwinner from the final, Adam Gilchrist. These things go in cycles, I can remember when no one thought the West Indies would ever be beaten, and look at them now.

The other problem with the World XI concept is that the team ends up being a combination of star players rather than a champion team. Everyone wants to open the bowling and bat at 3 or 4. Last time there were about 5 players who had to be hidden in the field – eg Inzamam – and there’s only enough room for one first slip.
