One of the main reasons for our trip is to watch the first two days of the Tour de France, which this year starts in London. We’re both massive fans of the tour – we watch every stage on TV and have read heaps of books on the subject. So we can’t wait to go along and experience the atmosphere first hand. I’m planning on doing a few feature articles on the tour, probably along the lines of:
- The tour comes to London – how London copes with the sudden onset of this most French of events
- Australians at the tour – competitors and spectators
- First impressions of the tour – the culture, the spectacle, the atmosphere
It’s a 24 hour trip from Melbourne to London so I’ll have plenty of time to think up some other angles on the way!
We are stopping off at Hong Kong for a few days and are planning to attend the horse racing at Sha Tin. A few of my friends have been to the racing at Hong Kong and they tell me it is spectacular, so we can’t wait. I’m planning to write an article on my experiences there.
While in England we are also planning to attend the horse racing at Newmarket, which is one of the world’s oldest and most famous courses. (Not hard to see a common theme developing here). Again I’m planning an article on this trip, not sure of the focus yet.
Plenty of articles to write – then again there will be plenty of time on the plane.
